      Shutting Down Salvage   03/05/2018

Well...I've always hoped I wouldn't have to make this post, but I think it's time. Unfortunately, I'm going to be shutting down the server.  I just don't have enough time to bring you all the content you deserve.  It really does suck because I've put a bunch of work into the server, the website, and everything else that goes along with it, but it's time to accept it.  Besides not having enough time to develop what needs to be developed, the multiple $300 15-day advertisements, expensive premium listings, and other forms of marketing weren't really working for us, so it's hard to have the motivation to continue. What kept me going was you all, the players.  I loved the reactions I received after each update and the overall support for wanting to see us grow.  Many of you all have donated to help keep the server running, and it worked out for a long time, but we were just never able to get over that 25 online threshold.  Regardless, thank you to our generous donators.  We would not have made it this far without you all.  I must say it again...thank you. At one time, our community was strong and it seemed like only a matter of time before we would grow bigger, but something happened and that time has passed.  Other servers nowadays are just too far ahead of us with OSRS content that it's hard to compete.  Let alone, OSRS has snagged a bunch of private server players again because of how much content Jagex's team is pumping into it.  As a one-owner/developer private server, it's just too much to keep up with.  These other servers have entire teams on payroll thanks to their years of success.  It's difficult to measure up to these guys starting out by myself and not having enough income to support a few other developers. As far as the future goes, my vision is muddy.  I would like to think I'd be able to re-launch the server in the future once I have more time, but as a full-time employee of a tech company where I do software development 40+ hours a week, I'd like my hobbies/free time to not include programming.  If I do re-launch, you'll receive an email saying so.  Until then, I recommend checking out some of these other servers which I've been playing around on to try to spawn some ideas: Battlescape - It's a nice old school server with a ton of new OSRS features, but they do seem to pad their player count (I literally counted 35 people when it said over 100 were online). Survive-RS - This is a brand new server with a bunch of potential.  It's a survival-style take on OSRS, where there's zombies all over the place and you have to eat to replensih energy and scavenge for your equipment.  It's currently in beta, so there are some bugs, but the gameplay is very fun.  I see some similar qualities to myself in the owner as well. *Note, I was not paid to link these...I just enjoyed playing them. The website will be up until the middle of April and I'll be taking the server offline today.  Thank you to everyone who brought wonderful suggestions to the game and an awesome personality to the community.  Maybe we'll see each other again on another go around.  On behalf of the rest of the Salvage staff, thank you and farewell.   -Justin

  3. Updates 2-15-18

    Woo elite clue hype!
  4. What New Content Do We Want?

I voted for bosses, although I think you could make a better list of bosses to add. But I would like to see all of these updates (as well as several others.)
  5. Updates 1-25-18

This new reward command is soooooooooooooooooo much better.
  6. Updates 1-18-18

This is very nice, I hated teleporting to Zulrah or something 4 pages in and clicking next page 1 too many times.
  7. Herblore Skill Guide

Very well constructed. May want to add in that making overloads I required for an achievement, and if you are a donor you gain access to an additional herblore shop that sell overloads and the supplies to make them (including the herbs for exteme potions.)
  8. Summoning Skill Guide

Great guide, personally I used the charming imp to get 99 summoning and then 200m summoning exp but I didn't camp rock crabs, there are several monsters in the game with good charm drops such as Kraken or Scorpia.
  9. Updates 1-17-18

I still can't make a <3 in the cc, 5/7. Loving the frequent updates Justin keep it up!
  10. Server Support Application | Mills | 01/15/18 |

Best of luck! Almost always the first person to welcome new players and goes out of his way to answer questions. Plus he's Canadian so he's friendly af.
  11. Construction Skill Guide

Your guides are very well made, keep up the amazing work man.
  12. Added benefits for 200m in skills

Yeah Justin already hinted that he was working on the 200m exp capes on discord. That's where I got the image in the first line of my post.
  13. With Justins recent teaser of max exp capes on discord: I thought another great incentive for players to get 200m in certain skills would be an added benefit for reaching 200m exp in that skill. Some examples of this could include: 200m Prayer = Prayer points reduce at half the normal rate. 200m Herblore = You no longer take damage when drinking an overload potion. 200m Attack = You are more likely to land a successful attack on your opponent. (Does not work in pvp) 200m Strength = You have a small chance to overpower your enemy causing their defense to decrease. (Does not work in pvp) 200m Defense = You take 5% reduced damage. (Does not work in pvp) 200m Range = You have a greater chance of not consuming ammo. 200m Magic = You have a 25% chance to not consume runes when casting a spell. For gathering skills such as mining I would not want this to have a serious negative effect on the economy so I would suggest a scaling reward, such as: when mining tin or copper you would have a high chance of receiving additional ores when mining and this chance and the amount of additional ores you would receive decreases as you move up in ore tiers, so when getting to runeite ore you would have a 10% chance to receive one additional ore. Other skills such as firemaking or crafting are a little harder to have an incentive as there isn't much use for them outside of getting experience. Obviously all of these suggestions are just quick examples to illustrate my idea and would ultimately be decided by Justin and Eyan, but I would love to hear what you think and any suggestions for potential 200m exp rewards, Thanks! Edit: I agree that none of these benefits should work in pvp settings, and am open to the idea of having the benefit only apply when the respective cape is worn (although that's an annoying amount of capes to own.)

  17. Zogres & Skogres Minigame Guide

Zogres & Skogres Minigame Guide The purpose of this minigame is to get ogre coffin keys in order to get an ogre artifact. To start the minigame click on Minigame Teleport in the teleports tab and click Zogres & Skogres on the Teleports interface. Once you are there kill either Zogres or Skogres (both combat lvl: 44) to get ogre coffin keys. I highly recommend having a bonecrusher for this minigame, the keys are hard to see on the ground when their bones are also on the ground. You will then open the Ogre Coffins located at the east end of the minigame area with those keys. Each key has a 3 in 29 chance of getting you an Ogre Artifact as a reward. Other rewards includes various bones, herbs, and a zombie outfit. This minigame is a great source of prayer and herblore exp! The Ogre artifact has the following effect: Deal double damage to Slash Bash while the Ogre Artifact is in your inventory. Upon killing him, the artifact will be destroyed and you have a chance to receive a special drop. Once you have obtained the Ogre Artifact it's time to kill Slash Bash. To get to Slash Bash click on the Boss Teleport in the teleports tab and click Slash Bash on the Teleport interface. When you kill Slash Bash it will consume your Ogre Artifact and give you a chance at a drop from his special drop table. If you get really lucky you might get a Heavy Ballista or a Ruined Backpack! Stats for Heavy Ballista: The ruined backpack allows you to store 5 items inside while only using 1 inventory space. Good Luck!
  18. Updates 10-19-17

Nice update, blowpipe definitely needed a buff. Happy Birthday Justin!
  19. Guide - Firemaking

May want to add ring of fire (dropped by the phoenix boss) that gives you a 1.5x exp bonus in fm when worn. Also to make the shops more complete you could add logs costs and base xp for each log when burnt. May want to add a note after you burn a log you can click the fire to add logs to it (I may or may not have know this when I started and may or may not have been training fm by making lines of fire.) Thanks for the guide Brad!
  20. Guide - Thieving.

There is also a stall in the elite donor zone you may want to add. Killing it with all these guides keep it up man!
  21. Guide - Agility.

Nice guide, good to see a few more up now. 2 thoughts I had: Might want to add that you can trade in agility tickets for exp and that the exp your recieve from trading them in scales with all bonus exp (brawlers, vote book, well of goodwill, and weekend bonus, donor rank bonus.) Also I'm not sure how accurate the lap completion exps you have listed are since it scales with all bonus exp as well, if those are the base amounts might want to add a note that they will vary based on bonus exp. But overall great job Brad the legend!
  22. Quest to Comp! Update (10-14-2017)

Some nice progress for 2 days, and already emerald. Thanks for supporting the server!
  23. Ironman Quest to Comp

    Sounds fun!
  24. Extend Slayer Tasks

Great idea! Just wait for a 35 Nex kill task, would take forever.
